about

Traversing into a new year Steve O’Sullivan presents the next Bandcamp exclusive MOSAIC digital release.

Hidden Sequence is piloted by Paul Simmons and Stefano (aka 6884), a double act that’s as special as it gets. A former D&B superstar born and raised in London, Paul is an experienced hand and a master of funk with over several decades as a performer to his credit. By contrast, Stefano is a studio-dweller and sound sculptor – a mathematician divided between techno chords and jazz infused licks. When the two met in the magical climes of Cologne - their chemistry was immediate and a vision quickly took shape. Their sound is a reinvention of dub, shot through a prism of cosmic grooves, hypnotic beats and rich atmospheric textures.

Met with the opening shimmer of ‘Clouds on Neptune’ – the duo charm their way into the stratosphere of your aural appreciation as twinkling textures and subtle melodic shifts offer a glimmer of better days to come.
Embodying the depth and breadth of the calm found in the starry night skies, ‘Moonlight Shift (Roots Mix)’ gently sways to the pulse of weighty dub and cavernous echoes of classic instrumentation, as pattering high hats tick along. Picking up the pace, ‘A Matter of Time’ leads with bassline bounce, 4/4 beats and maximal use of minimal elements that reach a full crescendo when the delay hits peak. Followed with heady nod of ‘Moonlight Shift (Original mix)’, the duo make full use of bass and space as their subtle path glides through fields of frequency with more than a sprinkling of spatial dust. Last but not least, ‘Foreshadowing’ shows off their impeccable approach to deep sound design as they orbit back round to their starting position.
